Abstract:【Objective】 To explore the feasibility, efficacy and safety of endscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for tumors originating from upper gastrointestinal muscularis propria. 【Methods】 A total 35 patients with tumors originating from upper gastrointestinal muscularis propria were confirmed by EUS and CT scan underwent ESD. Laparoscopic intervention was applied when severe perforation occurred or ESD procedures was too hard to handle. 【Results】 ESD operation was successfully performed in all 35 patients, the mean procedure time was 82.4 min (45~240 min), and the mean tumors size was 1.9 cm(0.8~4.2 cm). No severe complication occurred. Pathological findings were 14 cases of esophageal leiomyoma, one case of esophageal stromal tumor, 6 cases of gastric leiomyoma and 14 cases of gastric stromal tumors. 【Conclusion】 ESD of upper gastrointestinal muscularis propria tumors is a minimally invasive, safe and effective therapeutic method.
